John Stuart Mill wrote in 1859 that the only justifiable reason for interfering in someone's freedom of action was to prevent harm to others. This is known as his "harm principle". It states that we should almost never stop someone from doing something because it's there human right to make that decision. and that they should only be stopped if they're causing harm to themselves in a lethal manner or someone else in anyway. Well, this statement relies heavily on the "almost" in order to prove the point even when it fails, it was a good assessment of human nature at the time. But, times have changed, and in a world where anybody can do anything they want. Are we forgetting the true value of logic and reason?

Logic and reason is a very vague statement. When I'm talking about how we've "lost" logic and reason, it's a clear overstatement. We, of course, have not lost it all. You don't just get out of your cab New York City and see 50 people get out of there cars and walk right into the path of a moving bus. What I'm trying to say is that in certain cases people are to over-confident in their ability to think right or take quick action in a time of stress. long ago, if someone broke there arm on the sidewalk everybody wound be scrambling every which way to try to save/help that person. I deeply feel now that the 80th percent of humans will just run around and not really know what to do. Most people just kind of sit at there desk jobs all day and when the time comes to make a rather simple decision. They just can't.

And that brings us to the final point. I think I like to call "Becuase I said so". And, no I'm not talking about mom to child or teacher to student. I'm talking about when a person makes the wrong chose and knows it, but refuses to say anything. Like, for example, "we should go eat at taco bell". "Why?". "Becuase I said so". Now that itself is a really dumbed down version of the real thing. But, moving on. I feel that humans need to make decisions based on logic, reason, and fact. not opinion and feelings.

Something, even the smallest thing needs to be done. Or else some person is going to just walk off a bridge.

And no one will stop them.
